Servant Of My People
Growing up in South Texas, I would find myself at the family church helping my grandmother and fellow church members during some weekends. We would often be filling up boxes with different food items to be given out to less fortunate families. As a child I never really understood why we helped with filling up those boxes, it was not until many years later that I understood the importance to what we were doing. It became clear that although we did not have much to offer financially, we did have the time to assist the community when and where the opportunity arose. Although my father had a full time job, I knew that we were a low income family because we did not have the "nicer" things in life, but we always lent a helping hand whenever we could. I came from a lower income family and I never really knew it because my two older brothers and I never went without. Till this day I offer assistance when and where I can with hope that someone will not go without. Personally, I consider myself a "servant of my people" I will continue to do this type of service throughout my teaching career. I have the hopes of showing my students the importance of community service work. I will teach my students that service work is not only helping the less fortunate, but also doing work in the community with helping those who are not able.
Below you will find a list of organizations and clubs I was a part of while attending Washington State University that allowed platforms and opportunities in giving back to the communities.
